Laboratory Services
Automative Condition Monitoring
Trackless Mobile Machines
- Through our in-house oil sampling capabilities, which form part of our laboratory services, we regularly analyse the oil from major machine components and systems for contaminants, wear particles, and overall oil condition.
- Oil analysis can provide insights into the health of components and help predict potential failures.
- Our onsite condition monitoring service allows our mining clients to track the health and performance of critical equipment such as drill rigs, dump trucks, LHD’s, crushers, conveyors, pumps, and drilling machinery.
- With our cutting-edge technology and service, we ensure regular monitoring which helps identify early signs of equipment wear, malfunction, or potential failures, enabling timely maintenance and reducing unplanned downtime and excessive costs of repair.
- Predictive maintenance based on onsite condition monitoring which will result in cost savings by minimising unscheduled downtime and reducing the need for emergency repairs.
- Proactive maintenance can extend the lifespan of equipment and reduce the frequency of expensive replacements.
Our laboratory services also includes conducting tests on-site reduces the time required to transport samples to an off-site laboratory. This helps minimise downtime, ensuring that transformers can be quickly returned to service after necessary maintenance or troubleshooting.
Our on-site testing is more cost-effective, as it eliminates the need for transportation of samples to external laboratories. This can lead to significant savings in terms of shipping costs, especially for remote locations.
Kwena Laboratories services allows for a streamlined and efficient testing process. Technicians can perform tests immediately after collecting samples, reducing the time between sampling and obtaining results. This efficiency is valuable for preventive maintenance and rapid problem resolution.
Fixed Plant
Like mobile machines, we use vibration analysis for critical rotating equipment in fixed plants, such as pumps, motors, gear boxes, power packs and fans. This establishes baseline vibration levels and monitors for deviations.
We conduct regular infrared thermography inspections to identify hotspots in electrical components and mechanical systems.
Hotspots may indicate electrical issues or friction in mechanical components.
We use ultrasound testing to detect high-frequency sounds associated with mechanical issues like bearing wear, leaks, and electrical discharge. Ultrasound can be particularly useful in identifying early-stage problems.
We implement condition-based lubrication schedules based on oil analysis and machine health.
Lubrication is critical for the smooth operation of machinery, and monitoring lubricant condition can prevent breakdowns.
We monitor environmental conditions such as humidity and temperature, especially in sensitive areas like electrical rooms or control centres.
Environmental factors can affect the performance and lifespan of electronic components.
We employ corrosion monitoring techniques to identify and address corrosion issues early on.
Corrosion can compromise the structural integrity of plant equipment.
Integration
Integration with Maintenance Management Systems
- Our laboratory services include the integration of condition monitoring systems with maintenance management software to streamline the maintenance workflow.
- This integration ensures that maintenance activities are scheduled efficiently based on actual equipment health.
Continuous Improvement
- We regularly review and update the condition monitoring program based on the analysis of historical data and feedback from maintenance activities.
- Continuous improvement helps in refining predictive maintenance strategies.
By implementing our comprehensive condition monitoring program for both trackless mobile machines and fixed plant equipment, our clients will achieve a systematic implementation of and a commitment to ongoing analysis and improvement. We also provide regular training of personnel involved in monitoring and maintenance which is also crucial for the success of our programs.
Total Lubrication Management
Our Transformer Oil Testing Services includes but are not limited to:
- We measure the dielectric strength of transformer oil to assess its insulating properties.
- We identify potential breakdown points and prevent electrical failures.
- We accurately determine the moisture content in transformer oil to prevent moisture-related issues.
- We also reserve the integrity of the insulation system and extend the lifespan of your equipment.
- We detect and analyse dissolved gases in transformer oil to identify potential faults.
- Early detection of issues such as overheating, partial discharges, and arcing.
- We evaluate the power factor of transformer oil to assess its dielectric health.
- We also detect any contamination or degradation affecting the insulating properties.
- We can determine the viscosity of transformer oil to ensure proper lubrication.
- We maintain optimal cooling and heat transfer capabilities within the transformer.
- We assess the cleanliness and contamination level of transformer oil.
- We also ensure the oil’s ability to break down and remove impurities.
- We monitor the levels of furanic compounds to assess the degree of paper degradation.
- We predict potential issues with the transformer’s solid insulation.
- We identify and quantify the size and distribution of particles in transformer oil.
- We evaluate the cleanliness of the oil and assess the risk of abrasion or wear.
